The
Sheffield NHS Stop Smoking Service is giving
smokers the chance to join a drop-in programme,
which includes a free supply of nicotine
replacement therapy, to help them quit successfully
before National No Smoking Day on Wednesday
9th March.
The free drop-in
session is being held at Hillsborough Sports
Arena, near Hillsborough shops, on Saturday
12th February, anytime between 10am and
2pm.
Smokers who attend
this session will be the first in the city
to obtain free advice and a support programme
from qualified advisors, without having
to make an appointment.
A full seven week
programme will be offered to smokers, which
will include a free one-week supply of nicotine
replacement therapy for the first 300 visitors.
After this period, therapy is provided on
prescription for the remainder of the quit
programme.
Specialist midwives
Pam Hancock and Jane Grice, who are experienced
in helping pregnant women stop smoking,
will also be attending the drop-in session
to offer their particular expertise.
Carol Savage from
Sheffield West Primary Care Trust, who is
organising the session, said: "The
event in Hillsborough will provide a quick
and easy way for smokers to get the support
and advice they need to stop smoking successfully."
"Similar events
elsewhere in the country have been very
successful, because it takes just minutes
for smokers to take their first steps towards
quitting!"
As an added incentive
everyone who quits will be given free vouchers
which can be redeemed at any Sheffield International
Venues site for swimming, gym or dancing
sessions.
