Staff from a Sheffield pharmacy have cause for celebration, after becoming the city's top performing pharmacy for helping smokers to quit.
Vantage Pharmacy, on Ridgeway Road, Manor Top, helped over 100 people quit smoking this year, more than any other pharmacy in the city. To mark their success, they are entering the 'Stop Smoking Supporter' category at the national QUIT Awards 2006, which recognise health professionals who go the extra mile to help smokers quit.
Tina Cooke, of Vantage Pharmacy, said: "The success of our Stop Smoking Service is down to the hard work of all staff, and the flexible service we are able to provide. We have five qualified smoking counsellors who fit appointments around the client, meaning that people who would otherwise not be able to attend are able to take advantage of this brilliant service."
"Although we are based at Manor Top, word of mouth means that we see clients from all over Sheffield. We are committed to helping even more smokers quit the habit for good next year."
Malcolm Simpson, manager of the NHS Stop Smoking Service in Sheffield, said: "We are delighted that Sheffield pharmacies have helped so many smokers quit, and in particular the Vantage Pharmacy, who for the second year running have helped more than 100 people successfully stop smoking. NHS Stop Smoking Service programmes are offered by 56 pharmacies throughout the city and are a valuable service for people in local communities."
The Sheffield NHS Stop Smoking Service offers effective programmes in a variety of formats throughout the city. All programmes include nicotine replacement therapy, such as patches, on NHS prescription.
