Real life quitters
Read what some Sheffielders who’ve given up smoking have to say…
I gave up smoking thanks to the support. Try it! I did and have never looked back.
I managed to stop smoking through the support of my best friend. Since then, my family are very happy because the cigarette smoke used to affect them, particularly my wife. Since then she thoroughly enjoys the kisses!
I gave up on 3 November 2007 and feel better and richer.
I gave up in April 2007 and used patches which worked. Feel A1.
Gave up in 2006. Just stopped. Feel much better.
I gave up, cold turkey after 38 years. Now I feel wonderful. It’s hard, but worth it to feel this good.
I am at the moment on week 2, day 14. I have gone to a NHS Stop Smoking Group and used patches. The support is great and I am determined to stop. I have had a minor blip and smoked 5 cigarettes when I smashed my car on week 1, day 6, but the thoughts and help from the group kept me on the straight and narrow.
I gave up 8 years ago. I feel a lot better, not as out of breath and have saved a lot of money.
Feel fitter, healthier.
Never easy to quit, but better with NHS support.
Best thing I have ever done. Did it with help from Local Chemist.
I did it with the support of the NHS, and never would think of smoking again.
Stick an empty pipe in my mouth. Feels like a cig and it worked for me (smoked 60 a day). Feel much better, can taste food better and have exercise.
Quit 28 years ago – 10 per day. Feel fitter, healthier, able to buy house, smoke free clothes. I have had to see my family die of cancer due to smoking (and 3 friends due to smoking).
What I saved in a year – I took the whole family to Florida.
I smoked for 30 years. I quit 7 years ago in January (‘09). It was the best thing I ever did. If I can do it, anyone can. I’d never go back to smoking. No more nasty coughs.
Best thing I ever did giving up smoking. I smoked for 40 years. No more bad chests or clothes smelling. It’s hard but don’t ever give up trying, its all worth it.
When I was smoking I had chest pain, indigestion, numbness in my hands, tingling pain in my arms and I had heavy legs. I felt ill smoking 8-10 cigarettes per day. Since I stopped I have no chest pain, no indigestion. The tingling and numbness in the hands is improving rapidly. I advise no-one to smoke, not even one.
Stopped 2002 and saved £7,300.00 already!
It’s what you have to suffer both before and after treatment [for cancer].
I gave up with the support of NHS in my workplace. I used inhaler for one week, then moved onto the patches and support of the one to one for 1 month, Now five months on, I feel and look a lot better, I would never start again.
